Heart on My Sleeve

Happy Monday and happy Valentine's Day week!

Valentine's day can be kind of a polarizing topic, but I like it, not because of big gesture gifts, but the little small things. Heart details, a date afternoon, a heartfelt card, and pops of pink and red. I knew I wanted to mostly focus on a casual look for Valentine's day/week, but I also have more dressy outfit inspiration if going out for a fancy dinner is more your thing.

I wouldn't say we "celebrate" Valentine's day, but to me the pops of bright red and pink are extremely welcome since this time of year can be a little drab. This past weekend was wonderful though because we had a beautiful snowy weekend, and with Valentine's day falling on a Friday, we kind of get two weekends to do Valentine's themed things. Since I knew I wanted to shoot this look obviously before Valentine's day on Friday, we turned Saturday into a little mini date day, going for a snowy walk and then getting hot chocolates at one of our favorite cafes in East Aurora. I also wore it for a Galentine's day brunch that I hosted at my house yesterday, and I had so much fun doing a little casual decorating with the theme. I really just love holidays!

I knew I wanted to do a casual sweater outfit for Valentine's day, but I also wanted it to be a little bit more subtle, so that you could wear it other times and have it not be weird. So, I was inspired by many of the sweaters I have seen with heart patches, or heart details on the elbows. It has that Valentine's day look, but you could easily wear it all winter long, unlike something a little bolder covered in hearts. I decided to really go all out with the look by adding some heart statement earrings, and a red ribbon in my hair. I love wearing ribbons in my hair, because honestly doing hair is not one of my strengths. It is either down, half up/down with a clip, or in a ponytail. So adding a ribbon really elevates that ponytail with minimal effort. I honestly usually re-purpose ribbons that come on gifts or other things I buy. I have a yellow one, a light blue one and a dark blue one. They aren't really meant for hair, but that's what I use them for! I knew I needed red, so we found a spool of ribbon at Target, and I really am not great at bow tying for presents, but I will give it a go since I have this ribbon now.

I really did some research for finding the sweater I wanted. I considered this one from chicwish because I have been seeing it everywhere and it is really cute, but decided to see what else was out there. I settled on the one in these photos from Shein, and it was my first first purchase from them, so I guess this is also sort of a mini review.

I really like it! It is cozy, surprisingly warm even though the knit is somewhat open, and the heart elbows are super cute. They only have small and medium as size options, so I went with the medium and was a little worried it would be too small but it isn't! I was also a little bit worried about how long it would take to ship, but it was exactly a week so that was fine for me since I planned ahead. I'd order from them again for non-investment pieces.

A bonus tablescape from our Galentine's day brunch before food, which was devoured. Plates and napkins are from Target, the love birds salt and pepper shakers were a wedding gift and believe from Lenox, and this adorable table runner was a Wegmans find!

What are you wearing this week for Valentine's day? I hope everyone has a great week!
